Hiking

Grassie Lakes Trail

Grassie Lakes Trail is always a good beginner hike. This 4km heavily trafficked hike is rated as easy with some beautiful views at the top! I always recommend going up the difficult way and down the easy way (they are marked at the trail head). This gives you the opportunity to see a beautiful waterfall on your way up to the crystal clear lakes. Bonus to this one is it is super dog and kid friendly.

Ha Ling Peak

Ha Ling Peak is a popular sunrise hike that leans more to the difficult side. This hike is roughly 8km and the terrain varies from distinguished trail, to wooden stairs to a scramble to get to the peak. It is a heavily trafficked trail, so hiking it at night really isn’t scary ( although you should always have your bear spray and lamps). The stars and the sunrise over Canmore is such a rewarding, breathtaking view I promise it’s worth the early morning and the trek.

Police Creek Boardwalk Trail

Police Creek Trail is a super easy 4km out and back trail that anyone is welcome to use, including dogs. This trail is popular for walking, biking and snow shoeing. This trail is a nice quiet spot all year round and a very nice option for those who would like to experience some views but are not interested in hiking.

East End Of Rundle (EEOR) is roughly a 5km heavily trafficked out and back hike rated as hard on AllTrails. This trail takes about 4 hours and the terrain is a little loose but this hike is definitely doable with your dog on a leash. Roughly half way up you’re treated with a gorgeous view of a lake and Ha Ling Peak.

Three Sisters Creek Trail is an easy 4km out and back trail near Canmore. During your walk you have a high chance of coming across some wildlife and some little waterfalls. This trail is really popular for mountain biking and welcome to all levels of people including dogs.

The Bow River Loop is a quiet 2km loop near Canmore with beautiful views of the river and surrounding mountains. This trail is mainly used for running, biking and enjoying some scenery with your furry friend. If you’re looking for a nice trail to walk while enjoying a cup of hot coco this one should definitely be on your list.

Places to Eat

  • Rocky Mountain Bagel is a Canmore staple. With the best bagels in town both of their locations always have a lineup out the door. Thankfully they do have an option to order online so you can skip the line and pickup your order upon arrival. I highly recommend the jalapeño bagel and the cranberry cookies if you make a stop!

  • The Grizzly Paw Pub is a great place to stop in for a good meal and cold drink. This moderately priced pub has stunning views to look at while enjoying your meal and even welcomes dogs on the balcony!

  • The Rose and Crown is a great spot to stop if you’re looking for some good food for for a great price (I suggest the R&C burger with fries). Staff are super friendly and accommodating, and my favourite thing about this particular restaurant is that they have a dog friendly patio!
